Sweetheart Sandwiches

Step #1

Combine all the heart shaped mixture ingredients in a bowl and stir until smooth. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag and pipe small hearts onto a sheet of baking paper cut to fit your tin.

Step #2

Place the sheet in the freezer for about 15 minutes or until the hearts have firmed up.

Step #3

Meanwhile, prepare the cake mixture in a separate bowl. Remove the baking paper from the freezer, set it into your baking tray and pour the cake mixture over the top.

Step #4

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 10–15 minutes. Once baked, lift the cake from the oven, place it on a cooling rack, and gently peel away the baking paper.

Step #5

While it cools, make the buttercream filling.

Step #6

Cut the cooled traybake into squares and sandwich each piece with a layer of buttercream. Enjoy with a cup of tea.
