Caramels go back as early as the seventeenth century as it was an inexpensive candy to produce. Around the 1850’s, it was discovered that by adding milk and fat to the sugar mixture that a softer chewy candy could be produced, which is delicious drizzled over our Toffee or Carrot Cakes when baked!
