Would it be Easter without hot cross buns? GBBO contestant Val Stones shared a simple but lovely Hot Cross Buns recipe. She says:
“I always make Hot cross buns on Good Friday, the traditional day to eat them. It’s what my Mum did and I keep to the tradition going. Making the buns the traditional way takes at least three hours with two separate proves: first the dough and then the shaped buns. But using Wrights Premium Bread Mix cuts the time by half. The buns are deliciously fruity and light.”

These easy Easter Cupcakes are made and baked in minutes with Wright’s Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix, topped with chocolate frosting and of course – Mini Eggs! Foiled eggs, mini cream eggs or Maltesers also work well.
All you need for these Easter Bunny Buns is our Premium White Bread Mix, found in Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Ocado and Lidl. Here’s the recipe:
- Make up your dough and divide into 20 balls – cover and rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll each ball into an egg shape and place on a baking tray. Cover with a damp tea towel; lightly oiled plastic or polythene and prove in a warm place for 30 – 35 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Remove the cover, and snip the front of the dough for the “ears”. Then with a cocktail stick, make eyes and a nose.
- Bake on the middle or lower shelf of a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F, Gas Mark 7) for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
